6 Ways To Avoid Damage During Hair Styling

6 Ways To Avoid Damage During Hair Styling

Tired of spending hours on your hair?

Perhaps you skip extra days between washes, just to save on time.

Are you looking for the ultimate low-maintenance hair care routine? If so, look no further.

Whether you blow-dry or air-dry, these 6 steps will help you achieve soft, shiny, healthy locks quickly and easily!

1- Detangle Before You Shower

It may seem counterintuitive, but using your favorite hair brush to gently remove knots and tangles before you shower will help to greatly reduce the chances of breakage afterwards.

When wet, hair becomes much more fragile and damage prone at this time. Detangling prior to washing ensures your hair will be knot free and easier to work with post wash.

Our Siena Nylon Bristle Paddle Brush is excellent for styling, brushing, and detangling without breakage.

The Nylon With Boar Bristle brush does all of the above—it also helps to distribute the hair’s natural oils and enhance shine!

2- Cleanse & Condition

First, start by washing your hair with a quality shampoo and conditioner duo that gently cleanses and replenishes moisture.

Most people will not need to wash their hair daily. In fact, washing your hair too frequently can dry out your hair and scalp, causing your scalp to overcompensate and produce extra oil.

If you use a lot of products or have an oily scalp, you may want to use a purifying shampoo 1- 2 times per month to help remove excess buildup.

Use a deep treatment (like a hair masque or keratin treatment) once per week to hydrate, strengthen and keep strands soft and shiny.

3- Avoid the Heat

It may be tempting as can be to take a scorching hot shower, but your skin (and hair) will thank you for not scalding them.

Similar to the pores on your face, hot water will open up the hair cuticle. To avoid moisture loss, make sure to rinse down at the end with a blast of lukewarm (or chilly water, if you can handle it) to seal down the cuticle and leave your hair smooth and shiny.

4- Go Easy on the Towel-Drying

When towel-drying your hair, make sure to gently squeeze the excess water with the towel.

Never rub or agitate the hair, as this motion will rough up the cuticle, causing damage, breakage, and frizz.

Try a microfiber hair wrap—a softer, gentler version that absorbs more water than a cotton towel, is kinder to your strands, and ultimately saves you time afterwards if you choose to blow-dry.

5- Don’t Forget the Leave-In

This may seem like an extra step if you already used a rinse-out conditioner in the shower (it’s not!). If your hair is color-treated, heat-styled, pulled tightly, etc. then it will definitely benefit from a little leave-in love.

Try a light leave-in mist like Réplenish Conditioning Spray that detangles strands without adding weight or residue to your hair. (You’ll love how quickly and easily your brush glides right through your hair!)

This product is excellent because it can be used with other products to make hair incredibly manageable, yet never weighed down.

6- Cocktail Styling Products for Maximum Benefits

Whether your hair is fine/thin or coarse/thick, you never want to feel bogged down by excess product on your hair.

This is why we recommend “cocktailing” or blending your favorite products together in your palm (before applying them) to create your own signature hair product.

For example, mixing Sorbet Botanical Smoothing Balm with Glazé Hair Lotion will give you amazing results whether you heat style to sleek perfection or let your hair air-dry to enhance your natural texture.

Sorbet Botanical Smoothing Balm - a leave-in conditioner and softening balm hybrid that contains biotin and coconut oil for strength and shine. It straightens and controls curly and frizzy hair for maximum manageability and shine. UV absorber protects against color fading.

Glazé Hair Lotion - moisturizes, locks in shine, and smooths while adding volume and texture to hair. Retains curl and reduces frizz for a radiant, touchable finish. Jojoba oil conditions and shines while sunflower seed extract absorbs UV rays and prevents fading.

Combine them and you get the best of both worlds—smooth, sleek, voluminous and humidity-resistant—whether your rock curls, waves or straight styles!
