Women Inspiring Women: Meet Georgi

“I am strong. I am confident. I am sensitive. I am Georgi.”

MEET GEORGI:

This native Angeleno is truly a chameleon—when it comes to her career—and her hair. An actress by trade, Georgi has a talent for transforming herself for any role. Inspired by her mother’s extensive glam-up routine and some ups and downs in her own life, she’s developed a strong sense of self-love that no one can take away. Feeling her best in a relaxed, natural state, she’s learned to tune out the noise and societal pressures and focus on what makes her happy.

How would you describe your current relationship with your hair?

My hair is an extension of me. I feel like my hair changes with my mood. I love volume—big, crazy hair is my aesthetic. Like the saying, “the bigger the hair, the closer to god”. I’m also lazy when it comes to my hair...I want the easiest possible style. I love to just roll out of bed and out the door.

Growing up, how did you feel about your hair? How has this evolved?

I was a dancer growing up, so my hair was always in a bun. I went through extreme straightening and side-part phases.

How did your family/the media shape your views about hair?

As a kid, I remember watching my mother get ready to go out. I remember when I was 8 years old, she would always flip her head over and blow-dry her hair. (The queen of the blowout, I call her.) To this day, I feel that if my hair looks good, I can be wearing absolutely no makeup or the worst outfit, but I feel amazing and ready to go.

As women, we’re constantly being told what looks good, how we should look and act, be sexy/don’t be too sexy. It’s everywhere from magazines, to TV, and movies.

What was your a-ha moment when it came to understanding and identifying society’s unrealistic beauty standards?

A few years ago, I put on a ton of weight (due to health reasons). I felt bigger than I’d ever been in my life, it felt like my body was out of control, my acne was out of control, too. At that time I was forced to be okay with where I was at. I learned to love my face, my hair, and my body just the way they were. It’s been these last few years that I’ve been able to look in the mirror and love myself. It’s my body and nobody can take that away.

What makes you feel confident?

Being in my sweatpants, t-shirt and my hair up. When I’m in my most natural state. I had to grow into my confidence. When I was young, I always felt the need to have a full face of makeup and hair completely done up to feel confident. As I’ve grown older and wiser, I feel most confident in the essence of who I am.

What do you love most about your hair?

In regards to my hair, she’s crazy and has a mind of her own—she does what she wants. Because of this, I can switch it up and play with my hair. It’s so much fun and I love having lots of options to be whoever I want when I walk out the door.

Which is your favorite L’ange product? What do you love most about it?

Déjà Vu Dry Shampoo! I’m so lazy when it comes to my hair. I just spray it on and walk out the door knowing my hair looks great!

How do you express your individuality through your hair?

I don’t let my hair define me. Instead, I allow myself to have fun with it and switch it up when I want to. I don’t want to be chained to one hairstyle for my entire life. My hair is a representation of me—and of women as a whole. We are multifaceted and can be so many things. I’m not just one thing, I can be as many things as I want.

What is the nicest compliment you’ve received about your hair?

I was asked if this was all my hair…It sure is! No clip-ins, this is all me!

What is a negative remark about your hair that’s stuck with you to this day?

I’ve been told that my hair was too crazy, out-of-control, too wild. At the time, I felt like this was a direct attack on me as a person. It felt like they were really saying that I was too much or taking up too much space.

What would you like to share with the next generation that you wish you had known growing up?

You are beautiful, you are perfect, you are smart, you are strong. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You do not need to change anything about yourself.
